ITINERARY

Day 1 – Karibu! Welcome!

You’ve landed in Nairobi and you can’t contain your excitement for this East African safari adventure. The waves of emotion flow, plus the tiredness of your trip, and your arrival at the hotel in Nairobi will give you the perfect chance to relax and unwind from your travels.

In case your flight arrives early, you can kick off with an afternoon game drive at Nairobi National Park, or spend your evening with the elegant Giraffes of Giraffe Park.

Day 2 – First Sights of the Mount Kilimanjaro

Conveniently situated at the foot of Kilimanjaro is Amboseli National Park, known across the globe for its striking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the enormous herds of elephants passing in front of it. Are you ready to witness one of the most stupendous views ever? This will be your first stop from Nairobi!

At the first sight of Mount Kilimanjaro, you’ll get the chance to allow yourself to let your mind flow with the questions at the sight in front of you. Will your breath be taken away? Will the view of the mountain cause you to pause amidst the chaos of your trip? Guests across the world come to this renowned place for not only this view – but the view of the giant Amboseli Elephants parading in front. It certainly is a sight to see, and once you are in the National Park, lunch done, this will be the first stop.

But it’s not just the Amboseli Elephants that you’ll be able to witness – it’s the wild animals residing in this famous National Park, from lions to leopards, to the vast array of birds. Let this exciting first safari be an enjoyable one.

They say that the view of the stars in the night sky in the middle of the wild is a striking scene to be able to see. If the clouds don’t get in the way, this will be in your sight as you take in your dinner in themiddle of the bush. Relax by the campfire, gaze up at the stars – this utter beauty that our planet’s given to us – and immerse yourself in nature.

As you prep for a good night’s rest, be comforted by the sound of the wilds as you drift off into sleep. The following day’s events will require a well-rested night, so do make the most of it!

Day 3 – A Full Day at Amboseli National Park

Have you ever been on an early morning game drive? This is where you’ll be able to see some animals that you otherwise can’t spot; also being able to see the glow of Mount Kilimanjaro in the early morning light, and watching the huge herds of majestic elephants as they traverse the vast plains.

During the afternoon game drive, be on the watch for a vast number of other animals, including lions, leopards, wild dogs, impalas, cheetahs, and much more. This full-day safari will be an exciting one thus! It’s tough to predict which animal you’ll see, and it’s important to keep a lookout – they can be camouflaged pretty well in the savannah. The dry savannah grass makes it easy for them to hide and so keep your eyes peeled for a flicker in the grass or a mismatch of colour that may be the sign of something moving.

Even though full day safaris are long ones, there’s nothing that can’t be cured by a hot shower, the night sky, and delicious food. There’s something about these wilderness experiences also that pick up the appetite, so fuel well for both your day and the following day – you’re moving on to the outstanding lake known as Lake Manyara.

Day 4 – Experience Lake Manyara

Well rested and fuelled up, it’s time to make your way to Tanzania! Crossing the Namanga border, you will be driven through adventurous terrains through the northern parks of Tanzania towards Lake Manyara. Let your Tanzania Safari begin!

By now, you may get used to lunches in the bush and the warm African sun, that you can’t see how else you’re going to go back and have your meals. As you enjoy your food, you can look out to Lake Manyara, as it will reward you with astounding views of baobab strewn cliffs, algae-stretched hot springs, and groundwater forests. There is a lot to see in such a small area! What’s more, and what people come for to see in this location, is the thousands of Flamingos dotting their pretty pink feathers across the lake. It certainly is an unforgettable sight.

Day 5 – Depart to the Ngorongoro Crater

Approximately 2 million years ago, a volcano erupted and in its eruption caved inwards, leaving behind what we now know as the Ngorongoro Crater or Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After spending a night at a camp in Lake Manyara, it’s time to depart to the cradle of mankind – The Ngorongoro Crater.

Here, prepare to descend for more than 2,000 feet to the crater’s floor (are you getting goose bumps yet?); a habitat to thousands of animals, including leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos, birds, and so much
more.

The glamour of the Ngorongoro Crater is also characterised by its unique terrain or lakes, lush green savannah plains, rivers, swamps, and forested woodlands. This is, without a doubt, a natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage site, which will spice up your safari, and one that will remain in your memories for your lifetime.

More delicious lunches in the bush, unique sights of different animals in the wild, the expansive view of the crater from the very edge – everything will take your breath away. Maybe this is the day you’ll spot the rare black Rhino, much harder to spot in your upcoming destinations, both Masai Mara and Serengeti. Or you’ll see a pride of Lions playing around. Be absorbed by the wonder of the African plains and wilderness to make the most of your trip.

If you thought driving down the crater was an experience, so is driving up. Let’s not forget those famous African sunsets – take a peek outside the window as you drive back up, and you’ll also be able to spot a gorgeous sunset as the sun descends over the crater. Followed by another sky full of stars, take in the sounds around you as you sleep off in preparation for your trip the next day to Serengeti National Park.

Day 6 – A Stupefying Journey to the Serengeti

Did you ever imagine that you’d be able to see the largest African savannah plains? Well, you’re about to. Take in all your surroundings as you make your way away from the crater towards these plain lands, and on the way, you’re about to meet with a little history – it’s time to take a step into the Olduvai Gorge Museum. It’s here where there are displays of the roots of mankind, a glorious location of our earth’s beauty, and some fascinating history.

Coming back to the wilderness, your eyes will be in for a treat upon arrival at Serengeti National Park, the surrounding animals slowly becoming closer to you, and your heart can’t stop its delight at being at
this renowned location. In the amazing plains and vast grasslands, you will see lions lazing after a satisfying meal, leopards hanging on trees, confused warthogs mesmerised by your presence, and elephants parading on the horizon. Also, don’t forget to capture the remarkable savannah sunset with your camera before you retire for the day. There’s nothing like it.

Back at camp, you may take a look up at the starry night sky and wonder, how are you going to go back to a place without this view? Well truth is, once you’ve had a taste of Africa, you’ll come back craving for more.

Day 7 – A Full Day Safari at the Serengeti

The Serengeti National Park is obviously a large one, being the largest African savannah plains – so be prepared for a long day. A full-day safari at Serengeti National Park is no joke, and today you will spend this day traversing Africa’s wildlife haven. If you’re lucky, you will interact with the Big Five during your safari. You’ll get the opportunity to see all kinds of animals and birds, and possibly spot the thousands of wildebeests preparing for their migration across the Mara River to Kenya’s Masai Mara.

You can also opt today for a gorgeous aerial view of the Serengeti savannah, and take a hot air balloon flight at an extra fee.

Day 8 – Proceed to the Iconic Masai Mara Game Reserve

It’s time to head back into Kenyan territory today, and where better to visit than the famous Masai Mara National Reserve? Apart from the stunning landscapes and charming grasslands, this park will give you a rare chance to explore new sights and see a large number of animals, including the big five. Therefore, if you weren’t able to see any one animal in Tanzania, Kenya still will give you hope. Compared to the Serengeti National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve is far smaller and concise, making it easier to travel throughout the grasslands. Take in all the new sights surrounding you as you enter back into Kenyan land, both familiar and unique in its own way.

Day 9 -10 – Spend Time at the Masai Mara Game Reserve

These are the days that will conclude your Kenya and Tanzania Safari in absolute style. Apart from taking game drives, and continuing to see various animal species, you will also get a glimpse of towering escarpments, the meandering Mara and Talek Rivers, and the massive savannah grasslands. There’s something truly unique about the African savannah that you just can’t witness anywhere else.

At an additional fee, you can choose to take a hot air balloon safari and relax as you watch what this park has to offer from the skies. Also, you’ll visit the Masai Village, and take the opportunity to learn a few things about their culture and way of life.

Day 11 – Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast, and as you make your way back to Nairobi, your last day of the game drive could be a sad one as you bid adieu to the place that has been home for you for the last ten days. On your return, you’ll have the chance to stop at various escarpment viewpoints to capture the beauty of the Great Rift Valley, as a way to say goodbye to Africa. We hope you enjoy your 11 days in the wild in both Kenya and Tanzania, with some unforgettable memories in these African landscapes.

If you only visit two continents in your lifetime, visit Africa twice
